Dr. Liao is an internal medicine physician, tenured Professor of Medicine, and Walter Family Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center. There he also leads the Division Chief of General Internal Medicine, the Program on Policy Evaluation and Learning, and research methods through the Clinical and Translational Science Award. He is faculty in the UT Southwestern O’Donnell School of Public Health and an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to UT Southwestern, Dr. Liao was faculty in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Washington, where he served as Associate Chair for Health Systems in the Department of Medicine and enterprise Medical Director of Payment Strategy at UW Medicine. In Washington, Dr. Liao founded and led a nationally recognized policy evaluation unit that became the formal evaluation partner for the Washington Health Care Authority, the largest purchaser of health care services in the state.
