Dr. Ibrahim’s work involves quantitative and qualitative research on the impact of race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and culture on health care access, utilization, and outcomes. His examination of access to and utilization of joint replacement in the management of knee/hip osteoarthritis (OA) advanced health disparities research from first-generation studies detecting disparities in care, to second-generation studies exploring reasons for these disparities, to the first-ever third-generation intervention trial to reduce a well-documented disparity.
Dr. Ibrahim is the 2010 recipient of the Society of General Internal Medicine’s (SGIM) Herbert W. Nickens Award which recognizes exceptional commitment to cultural diversity in medicine. The award honors an individual or representative of an organization who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to cultural diversity in medicine or to improving minority health.
